If I were to co-sign with someone to get them an apt. Could I later remove my name??

Answers:
You could after the original term of the lease contract assuming the other person has performed their part of the contract. In this situation most leasing companies would allow the person to assume a new lease under just their name.

However this is a very dangerous practice. If the party you are helping defaults on the lease or produces significant damage to the property then you can be held liable for the unfulfilled portion of the lease plus any costs for damages.

My call on this one is no---you have said you trust your friend and the apt. complex opts for you to cover the bill if your friend can't.
Better to piss off a friend than to lose one.

probably at the end of the lease
you will be on it for the duration of the lease. be very careful considering this matter. you could end up with a monthly note you don't want or need. m.
I urge you to think twice before doing this. You could get stuck with paying the rent. If the person doesn't have good enough credit to rent under their own name, what makes you think they won't screw you.
