It has a pretty long shelf life, if the can has been opened it will go bad sooner, I have seen latex paints get all stringy.

A can will slowly rust from the liquid inside it. An unopened can of paint will still be good in 2 years, if it doesn't freeze. An opened can will be good for a year, then toss it. (Check it first, if all rusty inside, or stinky, it's bad). If you have a good amount of paint left, but less than half a can, you could pour it into a smaller container that seals tightly. Air causes the paint to slowly dry up and to go bad.
