My House Got Broken Into....What Do I Do Now?

All the doors and windows were locked. They broke a window in the door to get in. They did it in broad daylight at a time I am usually home. I was luckily out running errands. Only gone for about 3 hours. We own several vehicles so it's not like they thought nobody was home. All they took was a T.V.? We have 6 T.V.'s in the house? Millions of things that are worth more than the T.V. and easier to carry out? It looked as if nothing else was touched? Everyone is saying it is because they got scared but they wouldn't have done it at 3 in the afternoon if they were worried about being seen and you can't say it's cause they knew nobody was there cause I am usually home and as I said even when my roomate and I aren't home there is always at least 4 cars parked outside... I already thought about what if it is someone we know but when the cops got here they asked the neighbors and two of our neighbors said they seen black guys here. Well me nor my roomate associate with black people so

Answers:
Simple! Get locks that require a key to unlock them from the inside and outside. Might I also suggest buying a German Shepard, they are very protective and territorial. Additionally, I would say purchase a ladies Smith and Wesson titanium .38 with soft-lead hollow tip rounds.

Other answers:
nothing you can do since you done all you can, get better locks on doors, and a alarm system for windows

Stay somewhere else for a few days or weeks and if any more break ins occur tell the cops to investigate.
Get a security system installed. It is worth the piece of mind.
The best thing to do once the police are contacted is to do somethings to make your house more secure.. i.e. add better locks, window locks, possibly a burglar alarm.. not only will these help make your house more secure they will also help your to feel more secure as well.
call the police
report the matter to police immediately...

Ask neighbors if they saw anything... if you have any stores or gas stations nearby with CCTV, maybe they can help the police...

Join neighborhood watch program in your area... or seek help from retired security guards...

get yourself a good security system.. ADT...

put a sign... watch out for DOG..
Oh you poor thing. The white woman with black men out to rape her. GET OVER YOURSELF! They are prob drug addicts just lookin for a easy way to get their next fix.
Make a police report, update your doors and windows to more secure models or maybe think about getting an alrm for the house.
You kept saying there was no way they knew you, but you kept pointing out that your usually home...why would they be after you if they didn't know you?
I think your just looking for attetion. Just be happy all they took was a TV.
I would get an alarm system installed and I would use it when I'm home and when I leave. I love having an alarm system, it gives you peace of mind. There is also a panic button on it to call the police or fire department directly. They can even wire your windows if you want.

If you still feel like you need something more you could also look into a stun gun or pepper mace. Just remember that sometimes people get these type of items used on them if they are not careful.
It sounds like either a desperate drug addict, or a kid on a whim. If someone was to really rob you, there'd be nothing left. My advise, go get a dog, preferably a pitbull or a rot. Perfect burglar repelant.
These guys might have just been after a thrill.

If you don't have a Neighborhood Watch, see about organizing one. Stay with a friend if you don't feel safe. I ordinarily don't advise this, but if you think you can handle it, get a dog.

Consider getting a different door too, since the broke a door window to get in. Or get the panes in your present door replaced with break-resistant glass.

Good luck!
sorry to hear about what happened.you need to be careful cause there are alot of sick people out there.it seems like you maybe right.maybe they thought you were home and had planned alot worse.and like you said you were usually home at that time.lucky you weren't that day.if you get some of those alarm company stickers and put them on your windows and doors it will make sickos think twice about trying anything.you don't have to get the whole alarms package.cause lets face it how many of us turn the thing on when we are home.phone and ask if they will sell just the stickers to you.although you are a very attractive woman ,that does not give any guy the right to follow you around and try to scare you like that.maybe it would be better if you started looking for another place.for gods sake please be careful.hope this helps.
You are in shock right now because your space has been violated. However, I think this was just a random crime-of-opportunity. They most likely rang the door bell or knocked or saw you drive away and then they acted as quickly as possible. If this were a premeditated crime or a crime by a real professional, they would have taken the more expensive items you mention.

Fix your door, perhaps get a new one without a window, and update your locks. Consider getting a security system or a dog, both of which will deter this sort of crime of opportunity.
thats too bad to hear. I would recomend a camera so then it will montor the house and capture them on tape
Yes, that is a scary experience,
there are a lot of good answers up there,
so choose the best one for your next move
as to what to do ... Please be very careful,
lets hope they didn't case the joint as they say
and want to come back ......
I myself would move away into another
neighborhood ... If you can't do that now then just
be very cautious .......
LOOK before you get out of your car before
going to the front door, or have a neighbor
meet you as you drive up .....
Now your life is changed because some one
has entered your home ......
Be CAREFUL DREAM BREE !!!
Keep an eye on alert all the time ......
stay safe !!
well it must have been someone close by so find out who did it and go break into their house and beat the **** outta them
Im sorry to hear that happened :(
Here are some tips to help keep your home safe , leave a radio or tv turn on near a door or window so they will hear it and think someone is home . If you are gone at night leave the porch lights on and a light inside .Keep you shades closed on your windows ( that will make them think is some one in there or not ?) .Lock all the doors and windows at all times . Make sure your doors have both a knob lock and a lock above the door knob .Also sears and walmart sell alarms to stick on doors and windows . The alarm rings when the doors or windows are open , they are made by first alert and are $9.97 for 4 alarms .Another good idea is to leave a few pairs of shoes outside of the door so it looks like people came in .
Stay safe :)
