For example: In my area, the Pacific Northwest of the U.S., the average price of a 3 bedroom 2 bath home is close to $350,000 (U.S.) on an acre lot.

Depends on what you are looking for. Here in No. Calif you can find a 2br/1ba around $75000. on 3/4 acre lots
However we still have alot of vacant lots for sale from $20000. to 250000. depending if you want a view of Mt Shasta.
Your best bet would to buy a lot and put a mobile on it until you can afford to build your home, at least you would have your land.

in Alberta in our small city its jumped 45% so its around $350,000 for an average house with the high end up to $800,000, nothing is under $200,000 any more, im happy made around $100,000 in less than a year, but there again i cant buy anything anymore either
A 3 bed semi detached in London in my area is in US about $550,000 to $600,000 but in central london you are looking at a " million upwards and trust me American houses are twice the size and twice as nice as our houses.
