killing slugs?

chemicals or barriers

Answers:
Dig a small hole. Place a mason jar or glass cup in the hole and back-fill around the glass. Fill the glass with beer. They fall into the beer and downd happy. It works and it's cheap.

Other answers:
Salt is all I know is what kills them. EW... I hate slugs!!!!

put salt on them and watch them die!! mwuahahahah
pour some salt on them and they will melt.
They like beer. Put a mason jar type lid full of beer out as a trap - they crawl in and drown. The stuff is horrid and nasty - it kills people too.
Yeah salt will do it, it'll drain their bodily fluid.
try marmelade glasses filled with beer and stick them in the ground - it kills them and i think there are worse ways of dying that being utterly drunk...
barriers otherwise it can kill other wildlife
You can make a barrier, 12" wide from ash. You dig a trench and fill it with ash. They can't pass through that.
Put Cheyenne pepper around your garden, or lay a copper wire around the out side of it... or both. When a slug crosses the copper wire, the "slime" causes an electrical shock. Dead. Putting the Cheyenne pepper around it causes the slugs to stay away since they don't like the way it dries them up.... like salt. The Cheyenne will also keep the other pests away like deer, cats, dogs, etc. since they don't like the way it smells or tastes.
I avoid chemicals, just don't like to use them, don't care for the health effects and poisoning of the environment or my yard!

There are a few different things you can do. A lot of gardening supply companies sell expensive copper barriers that supposedly work. You might make something yourself using copper pennies....

I find slugs like to hide during the day, so if you lay long boards down on your pathways, during the day the slugs will hide underneath, and you can flip the boards and pick the slugs off. Assorted other pests will hide there too. you can also lay pieces of cardboard down for the same effects.

Take a small empty tin can and put half an inch of salt in it. Drop each slug into the can and the salt will kill it. Do not put salt in the garden, it will kill the soil!

You can also give the slugs a beer party. Next time you have stale beer, pour it into some shallow pie tins and set those in the garden. Many slugs will crawl in and drown. (or if you don't have stale beer, go buy some cheap stuff just for the slugs).

If you want FAST control, on cloudy days, and during the evening, just before dark, go outside with your can of salt and pick the slugs up with your fingers. They'll be coming out then, and if you spend 20 minutes picking them, in a week you'll probably reduce numbers drastically.

Wear plastic or latex gloves or they'll slime your fingers . Slug slime is not a pleasant experience.
Make a line of salt around what you're wanting to protect from the slugs. It works on slugs like a force field does on Star Trek the only problem is, it kills grass and you have to redo it every time it rains.
