The BEST way to determine if you will like your surroundings is to visit it several times, early morning, early evening, and weekends. You will get a sense of what it is like. Look at the dumpsters, are they over loaded, are there cars left out that need repair, are there kids playing all around your building, do gangs congregate there? All of this things can be seen for yourself BEFORE you sign a lease, even ask several residents as you see than, people will tell you if they like it there.
