It depends on what kind you want to put there. There are many shade-loving plants. Try looking online for sites like Henry Field's, Burgess, or some other nursery company. You can also type 'shade-loving plants" into your search engine box.
I have a big row of caladiums on the north side of my house that have done excellent!
Bleeding Hearts are beautiful and they come in white or pink heart. Sometimes they will reseed themselves. also Jacobs ladder witch is small to med height with blue flowers.
Hostas are great in the shade and simple to grow.

pansies can be planted anywhere and will live and bloom till september in most states.i cover mine with 4 inches of compost or mulch for the winter then when it warms abit i uncover them. the compost or mulch keeps the roots from freezing.
