anyone own a kirby vacuum?

Some kid came to my house to try to sell me a $2,000 vacuum from kirby. I think that is wayyy to much money for a vacuum. My question is does anyone out there own a Kirby? And if so is it worth the 2 grand being asked for it?

Answers:
no its not worth it, but if he comes back invite him in, cos he will hover and shampoo your house and clean the bed sheets all for free as part of his demo. what a job, imagine doing 40 houses a week, could you be bothered doing your own housework when you got home.

I have a funny story about the kirby man...

One evening a man came knocking on our door and my mom answered and he says "Hi I'm your local Kirby man and I'm" That is all he got out before my mom responded, "OH NO YOUR NOT!" and slammed the door in his face! I was rolling on the floor laughing so hard I almost wet myself. If you knew my mom you'd understand why that is so funny! Oh my I still get a good laugh out of that one!

NO it's not worth it. Go buy one at Wal-mart for 65.oo
my mom has the same kirby that she bought from a door to door salesman when i was like 8-10 years old...i'm over 30 now, so i'd say they are worth it...
yes
Yes my mom owns a kirby I think it was $1500 but we got it a long time ago. It's a pretty good vacuum we barely ever used the shampoer part. I myself would never spend that much on a vacuum but then again it's lasted us a long time.
high button shoes!
I had a 20-year old Kirby I got from my mother-in-law. It was okay. I mean, it lasted 20 years, but it was heavy and the belt kept slipping off it. I'd buy 10 Hoovers before I bought a Kirby.
I have a Kirby thats 40 years old. It was my mother's and then she gave it to me. They last FOREVER. It does an OK job, but I don't know if it is worth $2000.
I have an old Kirby. Not sure how much it's worth. It works really great, but it's defintely not worth $2,000, probably not even $500. I don't know about newer ones though.
My wife bought one about 6 months ago. She loves it. We didn't pay 2 Grand for ours, I think it was like $1300.00. They gave us a ton of attachments to just about everything. I still think that is still a ton of money for a vacum, but If it makes my wife happy, than we're all happy.
i bought a kirby about 10 years ago and it was a used machine then. I got mine for about 800 dollars and i love it. i just recently found out it can be converted to a shampooer too. i just need a special head to put on it. ask them to show you a demo or a used model. you can maybe get it a lot cheaper, i don't think you can wear them out.
I own a Kirby Heritage II that was given to me. It works great and help up terrifically during a house remodel that included dry wall dust everywhere.

I would buy a Dyson if I was looking to buy a new vacuum however.
my stepdad actually used to be vice president of the company! They're worth the money, but I've never heard of them being sold for that high.
Ive got one that's about 40 years old. It still works good, but I've heard that it would be expensive to have it repaired if something went wrong with it. I guess its like a Mercedes, built to last but expensive to maintain. I would bet that they aren't built as good as the older models. Try to find one at a yard sale or maybe you can find one at a vacuum repair shop. If you dint think you could hold onto it for 40 years it wouldn't be worth it.
My bride bought one of those things years and years ago. Grossly overpriced. We used it about 3 times-- maybe. It "clamped" onto the carpet and neither one of us could budge it. Didn't matter how high we adjusted the thing, it just clamped and held on like a bulldog! Gave me a bachache to vacuum with it. I had to do the vacuuming because she couldn't push the thing. I finally threw it away. Happiest day of my life! Couldn't give me another one--EVER!
okay, call me crazy but I bought a Kirby from one of those kids back in 1991. I was young and had just bought my first house. Guess what though, I am still using that vacuum and it still works as well as it did when I bought it. I did have a problem with it in 2002 and the kirby company fixed it for free! Is it worth the money? well that depends, my sister has bought a vacuum every year since than because hers keep dieing, she pays about $150 per vacuum. Thats 16 years x 150= $2400 I guess its a personal choice.
Kirby vacuum cleaners seem to clean ok. The downside is that if you have alot of carpet to clean, imagine dragging a dead cow behind you. They are extremely heavy and don't pull easily. Funny story...My mom cleans houses for a living. Salesman came to her house to sell her a vacuum. She told him that if he worked with her for the whole day and vacuumed for her, she would buy one. She never bought one, they are way to heavy!
I currently own a Dyson. I also have a Rainbow. The Kirby dude vacuumed my carpet with both of those, and then the Kirby. Disgusting what he brought up with the Kirby--and I'm an extremely clean person. Listen to his schpiel about how NASA helped develop the technology for Kirby, and he'll also tell you why Dyson is a great concept, but doesn't work in reality. He gave me a great trade-in allowance on my Kirby, and would have given me more if I"d have let him have the Rainbow, too, but I run that one as a room air-cleaner. Yes, Kirby's are worth the money, and they're guaranteed for life.
I would check out used or refurbished Kirbys on line and see what kind of a deal you can find, they are good vacuums but are on the heavy side.......
