Are ants attracted to my waterbed?

I have been dealing with a problem concerning ants. I am not entirely sure what kind of ants they are, but I suspect carpenter ants. Ever since I put my waterbed up, I have found that my bed has been crawling with the occasional ant. Not hoardes of them, but anywhere from 10-15 at a time, in various parts around the bed.

So while sleeping, I have been occasionally rudely awoken by the feeling of an ant crawling on my back or leg, or biting me. I found out that they seem to be coming in all along the floorboard around the walls... and I have sprayed down ant poison around those areas. It seemed to stop them, but recently they started coming back, as if the poison had no effect at all.

Around the other areas of my room, over the past 2 years, I have found various ant graveyards... so obviously there's something about my room they like. It's just lately, they have decided to take an exploring interest with my waterbed.

Please help! I hate having ants crawl all over me while I sleep!

Here are a few points to consider...

1. Ants are like any other animal; they require water. If your waterbed has any condensation or even a pinhole leak then the ants will find it.
2. Ants also require a food source. If you eat in or near your bed you are inviting an infestation.
3. If the ants are coming in through multiple entry points, and if they are carpenter ants, then you have a major problem.
4. The quickest way to see if they are carpenter ants is to find a dead one (not squished) and examine it with a magnifying glass. If you see one or two "spikes" on the thin connector between the abdomen (the bulbous rear end) and the thorax (the "chest" where the legs are connected to the body), then you do have a carpenter ant infestation. There are many, many varieties of carpenter ants, varying from small yellowish ones to the common big black ones. The one thing they have in common is the "spike" I previously described.

If you do have a carpenter ant infestation, call a professional pest control service. It's not as expensive as most people think.
