A rule of thumb is always family because family was there from the start and is always going to be there. I mean it varies though, some families are uncaring, I mean in my case it kinda is in the middle, but it depends, look at how much your family has been there for you (keep in mind how many years it took for them to raise you) and keep in mind how long your friends have had your back and what they have did for you.
My family. THey will always be there for you n omatter what. They will always love you no matter what happens.
umm family... that's easy.. your friends can change at the drop of a hat.. wether you think that or not most cases it is the truth... friends that are young especially and that are easily influenced by society and other people... trends and all that junk... but family is everlasting. they will always be there for you and love you no matter what. if you sleep with your bestfriends girl, or vice versa, your mom is still going to love you... that's what your family is there for... to love and support you through everything that happens to you.. friends are great, don't get me wrong... but blood is thicker than water.

It depends, if family members are jealous they can ruin you! And when they want to ruin they know you from birth - how convenient.
Ties in the family, besides being looked as a long term friendship is also genetically funded. Long years in our development, genetic 'nearness' -> desire to help family was always there. This leads to the fact, that yes, family is way more important to an individual then a friend is.
BUT, having said that, it doesn't mean every member of the family may help. Where there is great help there can also be great wrongdoings. So you got to watch out.

1) Money:
The way the world is structured today, money can be a great source of feeling secure. Like if one developed a medical condition - family members/friends may shy away (normally friends will shy away first (again not always)) or MONEY could take care it!
2) The SPOUSE (GF/BF/FWBs/LTRs):
This is the most important relationship in individual's life.
It has aspects of friendship - like you get to choose.
(You can't choose your family)
And
It has family aspects - once you choose and get married, its family!
One point that this relationship brings forward is the divorce; this relationship is again flexible (bot as easy as a routine friend) to afford such a breakup. You can't ever REALLY break up with a mother, a father, a son or a daughter!

Well I have the family that I started which is fine, but I certainly wouldn't give up my best friend for any of my children. MY best friend is also my spouse, who in life will always come first and foremost before even myself.
