what can I put on my windows to keep the heat out without having to put a curtain or blind up?

Answers:
If you don't mind darkening the glass a bit, search for a special plastic film that is made to block IR (UV block might also be desirable, if you want to avoid fading of furniture, etc). Most of these can be applied on the inside. These are real thin & can be easily cut/trimmed to size with scissors or razorblade. You'll probably need a squeegee to do the job, as most have you apply them wet & then squeegee off the water to make them adher to the glass. These films can be pretty expensive, though, if you're doing a very large window. They may not be easy to find either; ask at your local home improvement store (although I found some at a discount department store when I did a car side window a few years ago. LOL

Aluminum foil works wonders.
Aluminum foil works wonders.
You can have a solar screen put on the outside. Or put solar film on the inside.
HA that will be a miracle if you find out...tell me plz
you could tint the windows, with either a dark tint, or even a reflective tint,( it looks silver from the outside). Can be found at most home improvement stores. Aluminum foil works too, but looks tacky
You might want to consider window film.

The International Window Film Association says:
"Solar control window film applied to the interior of your windows is a transparent "solar shield" that can reject up to 80% of the sun's heat. In summer your home is cooler and more comfortable, so you can save on energy bills. In winter, some window films trap room heat for year -round comfort. "
they have window tint for your home i have it on my windows it is great because in the day i can keep heat out no one can see in and i can see out. also at night u could be naked in ur house with the lights on and no on will see you! not that i do that :) its darker then limo tint and reflects light you chould check it out try your local home depot and ask the sales reps to help you
Many companies do home window tinting film, like one sees in cars, but that wouldn't strictly allow privacy, especially at night.

Unless you don't care about privacy don't put up anything, The purpose of a window is to see OUT.

Certainly you could put up foil,,,Yikes, or paint the windows,,,Yikes,,, Or board them up,,,Yikes.

What's the issue about blinds or drapes?

Buy some sun screen , tack it to a flat piece of wood the width
of your window and hang it over your window on the inside or
make a screen for the outside. It comes in different colors and
widths.
Go to a hardware store to see what they offer as a film to put on windows to keep the sun from heating up the room.
If they don't have anything then go to a lumber yard because they have everything you could possibly need.
The film will allow you to see out but will make it a bit difficult for anyone to see in very well unless you have the lights on close to the windows. The film also comes in different colors too but as for the cost, I'm not sure so you'll have to check it out for yourself. Hope it works out for your purpose.
either a window tit or there are some amazing blinds are really small if you put them up and they are easy to adjust, no cords just a thing you pull on or you push them up and they are solar shades or something along those lines.
