How to stop ants getting inside my home with chalk?

Hello. Years ago (l'm talking the 80's) l remember my Nan drawing a line of chalk around the front door or across the pavement to the door to stop the ants going into the house. They could never get over the chalk and would turn away. Being naughty kids we used to draw a circle around the ants and watch them run around in confusion because they couldn't get out!. Anyway, my parents have suddenly been invaded tonight by ants (must be the warm weather in the UK at the mo') and we thought of the chalk thing - but this time it didn't work!. The ants are walking all over the chalk - l think maybe a ingredient that was in chalk years ago has been taken out, or ants are stronger nowadays?!. Anyone know of anything except bug spray that can stop them wandering in my house?? Thanks!

the asian stores have an insecticide chalk that kills any ant that comes close to it!! my wife is from the phillipinines and only used this until she got used to our spray cans and stuff,, but she still uses the chalk alot many local stores are starting to carry it now

Yup i know exactly what your talking about, try chinese places, its a special kind of chalk (dont use regular chalk) to stop ants

Sorry to hear about your ant woes, but you can take comfort in the fact that because ants are virtual chemical factories, they are the cleanest insect anyone could ever want in their house. I have friend who is a myrmecologist (studies ants/ph.d.), and as he would say, please do not step on the ants! hehehe....
Ants need moisture to survive. If they're trying to get in ones house there must be moisture. Run a dehumidifier or air conditioning, they will retreat.
20 Mule Team Borax laundry soap, put it in a ketchup squirt bottle than can be purchased at a dollar store, put the dry Borax in the bottle and apply along door frames, and around the baseboards in the house. anywhere you see the ants in the house, leave the borax lay for a few days until you no longer see any ants, they will carry it back to their nest and it will kill them. When you no longer see the ants vacuum up the excess borax in the house. Use the remainder of the box to do laundry with.
I've heard they dont like Cucumber peels? never tried it myself because chalk always worked.
