My landlord called about my music being loud at 4:30am, my neighboors complained!?

I didn't realize my music was so loud, I was doing a work out routine... normally i do it later on in the morning but lately my sleep schedule has bee all screwed up. What should I say? I'm so scared, I've never had a compliant like this before!

Answers:
Apologize to your neighbors IN PERSON, or on the phone if you're unsure of the kind of reception you'll get face to face. You want to show them that you know that they're real people, and that you really do care that you woke them up.

Call your landlord and apologize. You need to make sure that everyone involved knows that the inconvenience that everyone else suffered really matters to you, enough so that you will make sure that you have talked to them directly.

Be honest, but don't dump your problems on them. You've had some trouble sleeping, and were tired enough to mistakenly turn the music up. If they are angry, accept that they had a right to be angry about this one thing, and repeat if necessary that you are sorry you did it, and that it won't happen again. Be empathetic - you know that getting woken up early is a pain, and you'd feel the same way if it happened to you.

Do your best to be a decent and honest person, and this should all sort out smoothly. You do not need to feel that you are a bad person, or project that. You're a decent person who made a mistake you feel bad about making, and that's what you need to communicate.

Other answers:
Tell them what you just wrote.
Tell them what you just wrote.
say nothing, appologise if need be. and use earphones?
how about:

Sorry, i didn't realize it was that loud, it won't happen again.

That should do it.
Just apologize and be careful not to do it again.
Just apologize and try not to be more attentive to the volume level. Usually landlords have a three strikes and policy. Hopefully this was your first.
Simply appologize. Typically there are rules as to when you can play your music loud. And if the hours are reasonable, you shouldn't worry. However at 4:30AM typically is not considered a reasonable hour, so simply appologize and let them know it won't happen again at that you'll play your music at either a reasonable volume at those hours or play your music only during reasonable hours.
apologise and say you wont do it again. cant do any more than that
Rule of thumb...honesty is the best policy. As long as this isn't a habitual occurence, I'm sure they'll laugh along with you. I myself have woken from a dead sleep at 2am, got showered, dressed and almost out the door before I realized what I'd done. Everyone has an occasional bout of sleeplessness.
Yup, listen to all these people.
In addition, sometime OTHER THAN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, turn your music on to what you think is a reasonable level, walk outside, and shut the door behind you. See how far you get before it's either very faint, or can't be heard at all.
If you live in an apartment building, I suggest taking the time to apologize to your neighbors directly, explain the situation (that you didn't realize, and you fell absolutely HORRIBLE), and ask if they'd mind helping you test your volume, just to help avoid any future issues. If they're willing, then go home, turn on your music, and gradually turn it up. Before having done so, they should have agreed to pound on the wall/ceiling/floor about the time you reach a reasonable level. Also, if you're adamant about having it up while you work out (I understand...music = motivation), take a little survey about when it would be most convenient for you to do your routine, volume-wise. Nobody wants to hear it, of course, but when is it least likely to piss them off?
Pop by to your neighbours and your land lord and tell them that you have not been sleeping to well and that you are sorry to of upset them. You will take note of the noise in future and that your sorry to of caused a problem.

Tell them you appreciate there comments and that it is difficult to always be a perfect neighbour, as they will know themselves.
Come by my house. You can hear your music there as loud as you want and as late as you want to.

Tell your landlord "cary on dude".

Now seriously, all you have to do is offer to clean everyone's apartment for free and flog yourself as an apology.
