Bad News-there is no best school district in Wilmington DE. I moved there from CA not knowing that; even though I thought I did my homework, I missed the part that their elementary schools have a high percentage of kids who get SUSPENDED every year for bad behavior (go to the school's web site and look it up for yourself; you won't believe the figure if I type it). Misbehavior is rampant; the kids can't go outside in the snow because of all the injuries they get from hammering each other with snow. It was awful. And no matter where you are in the district, you'll get bussed into the heart of Wilmington-PU. Drive by the schools and check it out; it's demoralizing. One trip to PS DuPont and we knew we had to move.
Did you know that more kids in DE go to Private School than any other state? Yeah, it's that bad. I asked eight people I work with (engineers) who lived in DE where their kids went to school; seven out of eight used private schools.
So we moved over the border to PA; now our kids go to an excellent school system. It's much better and YES it's worth the extra property tax. And they can play in the snow!
