We have a friend with scented oil plug ins. Are they a fire hazard?

no, or not a significant one anyway. it has been determined they were the cause of a few fires... but so has mr coffee, the air conditioner, ect. anything you use can start a fire if it malfunctions.

If they were a fire hazard I highly doubt they would have been on the market for as long as they have been. I've been using them for years. They just get warm, not hot enough to ignite anything.

No. I've had mine for a long time and have had no problem. They're not heated, they just have a little fan that blows the smells out. They run super quiet so it doesn't seem like there even is a fan, but, yeah, there you go
