Fire alarms?

I live in an apartment building and the fire alarm gets pulled every weekend at like 2:30am (always a false alarm) not very many people even bother to leave the building anymore because there have been so many false alarms.
The fire department comes out and turns off the alarm, I asked one of the firefighters last night if they had any suggestions on ways to prevent this from happening in the future and what I as a resident could do. He said there was nothing except to tell people to stop being jerks.
Do you think that's true? Or was he just blowing me off?
There's got to be something I can do, or complain to my landlord enough to do something.

Answers:
Unfortunately there is not much you can do about it. the fire dept is right. its your landlord who you should be pissed off at. i'm suprised he isn't getting fined from the fire dept for all those false alarms.

Other answers:
It is a crime in my area to pull a fire alarm for no reason and it is call malicious mischief. If you know which one they are pulling, set up a sting and video them. You might also contact the police and see what they suggest, they may do some surveillance themselves. I had this happen in a townhome complex I had where one of the resident's children thought it was a funny joke to pull the alarm in the middle of the night. I actually made my residents follow our evacuation plan EVERY time it happened which ticked everyone off so much that they set up a sting. Guess the kid didn't find 250 hours of community service work with the fire department too funny!

stay up and see who is doing it and turn them in they can get a big fine and even jail time
How about asking your landlord to install a security camera that monitors the hallways, especially the fire alarm. That way you'll catch the culprit on camera. By the way, pulling the fire alarm is a crime, so you will catch a criminal in the act.
He was not blowing you off. You could ask the landlord to install a camera to catch the jerk. You could also check and see if there is any local code about fines for false alarms. Most towns have them. If you do you can try to remind your landlord of the fines that can given to him.
Good Luck
