Soap and water.

A clean house smells naturally fresh. Opening a window or two and airing it out frequently help.

The only reason a house smells 'funky' is that there are areas (laundry, bedding, fabrics, furniture, etc) that need to be cleaned.
Any of the things that you plug into an outlet and insert the little scented oil bottle into. Those really work well, and you can adjust how much scent comes out of them. There are lots of scents to choose from, too. You can find them at the grocery store, Wal-Mart, Target, pretty much anywhere. I unplug mine at night, though, because I'm always worried about fire hazards. Glade candles work well, but you have to remember to blow them out, of course.
sounds daft but opening windows for a wee while works wonders - if it is cold you can do it when you go to the shops etc for half an hour.

fresh flowers - but gets expensive

an oil burner is normally v good - and it is cheaper than some of the products you get
Soap and Water and a sponge and some elbow grease. :-)

Well that was crass. Sorry. I found that a quick run around the house with a feather duster and then the vacuum will help immensely. For products, I use Simple Green for almost everything. - But it really doesn't smell like anything. Hope this helps!
