Fill the vase/container you intend to put the flowers in, with half or less than half full of water. Crush two panadols into that water and place the flowers in it. Someone told me this and i did try it out. It lasted about 5 days. Try it out.
Before you put them in the water, re-cut the ends.
Tear off excess leaves on stems.
Change the water if it gets cloudy.
Put some white vinegar in the water
I don't know why, but my mother used to always cut the stems at an angle, then burn the wound. She'd add a crushed aspirin to the water in the vase and put the roses in.
Each day, cut just about 1/4 inch at angle from the bottom of the stem, and immediately put them in fresh and cool, not allowing any petals to be in the water and, dont remove any thorns from roses...it tends to shorten its life.I don't do it myself but there is an old wives tale I heard that some put a little sprite or glycerin in the water.

I help sell roses for our church for fundraisers on Valentines Day and Mothers Day...A florist owner gave the insight on clipping the ends of the stem.
Cut the stems on an angle, change the water and re-cut every 2 days. Do not remove any leaves thorns anything, You want all the plants energy used to stay alive and in bloom. Wounding the plant will re-direct the plants energy into the wounded area.
Lightly spraying fresh-cut flowers with an air freshener, keeps them up to 2 weeks longer than usual. The fragrance combination also adds to a pleasant atmosphere. Enjoy!
I have heard you can put them in mountain dew pop instead of water and they will last longer.
