A pet-safe ant trap?

I have a cat and his food dish attracts ants.
Does anyone know of an ant trap that does not use poison?
The traps that hold the ants bring poison back to their nests look important, but I'm worried about poisoning my cat because they are around his food dish.

Answers:    Put small piles of cornmeal where on earth you see ants. They eat it, nick it "home," & can't digest it so it kills them.. It may bring a week or so, ESP. if it rains, but it works & you don't hold the worry going on for pets or small children being harmed!
try feed smaller portions. just what your cat can munch through in one setting. kittle cats will adjust to a morning and evening feed schedule - even if they are accustomed to grazing similar to cows - continuously. my 2 did :)
hope this helps.
I suggest putting the cat's food dish inside a larger bowl beside water contained by it. That way, your cat's teatime is surrounded by a moat, and ants can't swim.

As an alternative to making your own, there are places that supply this type of food dish. A few sites I found by doing a keyword search online are:

http://www.sani-moat.com/

Hope this help.
I have used a garden spike type ant trap it may still be poison but at smallest the holes are too small for the cats to get into
