Flies gather outside our back door area &come into the house when the door is open.Anyone know any deterrents.

You are gonna think i am crazy, but it works. Fill a ziploc bag with water and thumbtack it right on the doorframe. i dont know why it works, but it does.

Well, you could find a way to put a "distraction" somewhere away from your front door!

hang some fly strips. also does the ground stay damp there? if so that could be attracting them.build it up with dirt so water will run off.
what kind of flies?
see if you can look up the 'red fly trap' on the internet - not checked if you can find it online but know they work really really really well with normal flies (not midges). they work by baiting the flies into the trap - so you hang the fly trap away from the area you want to protect, once the fly has entered the trap it cannot get out again, it particularly attracts females flies and so reduces the next generation.

i was told they don't like lavender hang some from your door frame or keep a potted one near the door worth a try and a potted one smells nice
use a fly screen they are fairly cheap and quite effective
get a bug zapper
Nail your back door up & use the front door.They arn't that clever.
My tabby cat is an ace fly killer. You could get a tabby cat. I've tried the usual, like citronella, and it's not effective.
try cleaning some of the crap outa your house it must be something in there attracting them
