Trend in home size - larger or smaller and why do you think that?

Answers:
The trend on most accounts has been for larger homes. The lower interest rates we had for a few years have made it possible for home buyers to 'up-size' their new homes. Lower rates have also made new construction more affordable for home buyers wanting to put a personal touch to their domicile. Increased competition among builders and a new construction housing boom all have driven down the cost or at least kept it steady.
Look through any new subdivision and even the most modest of subs will have homes that exceed the scale of the surrounding neighborhood and homes that have some of the same bells and whistles of larger estate sized homes. Finally the old attitude of keeping up with the Joneses prevails and this also played a role in the trend for larger homes. McMansions are common in many subdivisions and they are getting larger and more dramatic.

Single family residences are getting bigger. Go back 50 years, and there were a lot of 2 bdr 1 bath houses. Now, it's 3 bdr + den, 2 bathrooms.

Balancing those are an increase in the number of small condominiums!
