What are the uses of Diammonium Phosphate and how to know if the soil is sharp or alkalain?

please suggest a cost free method to determine the type of soil and is it ok for the soil to apply DAP to it whatever its condition
the soil is spanking new and according to the guy i bought it from it consists of 75 % sand (desert sand) and 25% mud! and i applied organic fertliser but iam looking fo best results
pls better you explain it easier than reading it from a websites that assumes that you know the brass tacks
