It's best to spray the nest at night when all the wasps are home. Do not stand directly below the nest--some may drop down after being hit. If you are dealing with bald-faced hornets (black and white, thick bodies) be extra careful as they are very aggressive and if you disturb the nest before hitting it with the spray(aim for the entrance) they shoot straight out in a "beeline" and they sting whatever they hit. Most other wasps don't seen very good at stinging you as long as you're paying attention.

(I know, they're persistent!) I cleaned out their nests and sprayed wasp poison (you can get it at Home Depot) up in the corners they like. Haven't seen them since.
Wasp spray.. you can spray them up tpo 20 feet away and knocks them dead. Cheap too, about 2 dollars at your local store.
Wasp spray, it knocks those things down and kills them right away. Incredible!
We had wasp nests above the entrance to our house and somebody told me about the spray, and it did work.

Only do the racket on individuals ... not the nest!
Also I heard that you can prevent wasps by spraying the color blue in areas that you expect them such as bird houses.
