What on earth is the purpose of a pillow sham?

Answers:
It's a SHAM... it's meant to fool you into thinking it's really a pillow. But it's not. You can't use it for anything but decortation. That's why I put an anvil in mine.

It's for decoration.

decoration only
It covers a bed pillow to make it look like a couch pillow - not just for sleeping on but for lounging on.
I have no Earthly idea. Or any other kind of idea for that matter, perhaps it's a construct of the devil.

It's for a decorative pillow to just throw on your bed to match your

to finish the decor of a bed. It is primarily for looks not for use in sleeping. You can prop oneself to read or for puzzles with the sham under your sleeping pillow.

"Its serves no purpose, its purely decorative."
A pillow sham is what you put over ordinary pillows that give them a decorative look. They are not meant to be slept on, but meant to give you bed an added decorative touch.
They were mostly put on the large old beds that were fancy as all get out.

They "completed" the bed assembly, with the huge "down quilt comfortors", and huge goose feathered pillows, that you just wanted to sink into and never leave the bed again! :)

I wish you well...
