I have ants in the bathroom !! They are attracted to water !! Lived here 30 years and never had this problem !

Since we came back from two week vacation, they have appeared !! We shut off our water supply and wonder if they come up the pipes because of no water flow for two weeks. We sprayed Raid down the area where the toilet is attached to floor. They were gone until we left again for three days and shut that water off. They are back ! Internet solutions do not rid them it seems. What can you suggest. Tried , bleach, ammonia, ant bait traps, and obviously we have not reached the nest and queen. I thought they would drown ! Help want fast remedy if possible. Are they eating the wood under the linoleum !! They are light in color and about 3/4 " long. Not very black and run fast !! What could be the source of the nest > Could it be the water tank > Just seems odd that until the water was shut off, we did not see any ants at all !!

Answers:
Ants are explorers. They are attracted to smells or chemical odors. Very unlikely they came from the plumbing but may be attracted to a smell coming from the drain, or you may have something else in the area they like. Terro works really well, they bring it back to the nest and kills the queen. But you need to get rid of the source of interest. Put a stopper or plug on your drain the next time you leave. It worked for a some one with fruit flies swarming around their basement drain. Any drain that isn't used for a while - the water sits and stagnates, hair or other particles ferment and even if you can't smell anything bugs can.

to kill large amounts of ants it out polluting Ur house with pesticide is to fill a bowl with honey and then put 4 scoops of ant killer in there and in the morning look at all of them died they will also give it to the queen too she she will also be dead
Use Terro
It comes in a small bottle and you put a drop on a piece of cardboard where they roam and eat it or take it back to the nest.
Boric acid also works.
Ants inside the house come from ants outside the house.

Yes, ants are attracted to moisture. We had that problem in our house when we first moved in. We came to find out that the plumbing in our walls was leaking, and the woodwork and plastar was moist, and attracting the ants.

You should take a look into the walls, if possible. If you have an access panel, look behind it. If the bathroom is on the first floor, check the celing in the basement. We became aware of our problem from out leak in the basement.

Make sure that if you call a plumber that they can do the work on the wall, tile, etc, as well as the plumbing.
