How to get rid of fruit flies with a homemade fruit fly trap:

1. Get a small jar you don't plan on using again and wash it out well. Make sure it is not a jar with a funky smell such as a used pickle jar or anything that use to have strong spices. You want a clean, odorless jar.

2. Take a chunk of banana and place inside the jar. This is why you want a clean, odorless jar - so that the banana smell won't be overpowered by other not-so-tempting smells. Banana seems to work the best, but you can experiment.

3. Fit a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the jar, making sure that it fits tight and well sealed around the edges. Then take a pen or pencil and poke 4 to 5 holes in the plastic, just big enough for a fruit fly to fit into. Once a fruit fly crawls in, it can't get out.

4. Place the jar in an area where you have seen the most fruit flies. Depending on the amount of fruit flies you have, you can expect to start seeing the jar fill up within just a few hours.

But always remember that removing the food, getting rid of the garbage, and cleaning up play a big role in eliminating fruit flies altogether!

I am having the same issue. I usually use raid for flying insects. It works kind of but otherwise just keep food covered and trash out. I totally get what you're dealing with they are terrible this season! Drives me NUTS! Or, try a fogger.

Wash the fruit off when you bring it home from the store. The flies lay eggs on the fruit-ugh-and they hatch and produce more little pests.

If you see evidence of the flies at the store in the fruit, don't buy the fruit. You can also refrigerate the fruit. The cold kills the pests.
What you could do is turn all the lights off in your house and then leave the door open(during the day) they should follow the light also you could fan them out with a towl or washcloth. If it's not too musch work for you that's how I do it.
Move away from the gay bar.
Accidentally I found the cure. We have a hanging light in the kitchen that is on a dimmer switch. I left it on one night on a very weak setting. The next morning I discovered the fruit flies were all trapped inside of the light fixture dead. So I would recommend taking any lamp which is enclosed and can be left on all night in your kitchen (without burning down the house) as a potential trap.
I have some that are around my computer are they inside hatching from the heat?
Will first empty and get rid off all you trash, I'm not being rude. or nothing, but check for food left some where, wash out all trash can's. don't put soda can's in the trash can in the kitchen, if you need to, wash them out first in water. Always cover you sewer sink. many times fruit flies will live in there. also. with just flow of food going down the sink, will breed them. so make sure you clean your sink out with a good mount of water also. with all I have told you it should work. Don't use sprays, thay don't work on fruit flies. But the Big thing is clean and get rid of all trash, and i mean out of the house..
We are currently going through the same issue. We found out where they were breeding (under our sink where we keep our plastic bags, there was a water leak). I suggest that you try to find out where they are breeding and clean that really well with bleach and water. Then you can go to Walmart and get some fly tape, I don't think that those contain pesticides, just stickiness. Good luck.
