What's the hemp plant? Can it really help the planet? People keep saying it's so versatile and useful... true?
Answers:
I know you cant think that someone grows hemp for that but they do. Hemp is different from Marijuana. Hemp has little or no THC unlike marijuana plants which are full of THC or "buds". As im sure you know THC is the active ingrediant that gets you "high".
In 1931 Hemp was named the "Billion dollar crop" by Popular Mechanics magazine. http://www.jackherer.com/popmech.html
Hemp can be used for hundreds of things, one of the biggest I feel is Fuel. You can visit http://www.hempcar.org/ for more information on the fuel use of hemp. This would give farmers much more income and actually would lower the price of gas. I read an article where this could make a billion dollar market for farmers at selling hemp fuel for .50 cents a gallon. How nice would that be?
Hemp is also used for clothing, oils, ropes, diapers, food, and much much more. HEMP was the NUMBER ONE annually renewable natural resource for 80% of all paper, fiber, textiles and fuel, from 6,000 years ago until about 125 years ago. Furthermore, it was used for 5 to 50% of the food, light, land and soil reclamation, and even 20% or more of all medicine. Hemp products are also biodegradable unline most items we use today that fill up land fills.
Another benefit of this is that when you grow hemp it puts nutrients back into the soil. it also helps to irrigate the soil as hemp roots grow down about 6 feet in the soil which in return help break up the soil.
Take the $100,000 challenge and prove Jack Herer wrong on these issues. The money is up for grabs. http://www.jackherer.com/index.html
Now with marijuana there is also new evidence supporting that it can help with cancer and much more. to read more of that go here: http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread19494.shtml

The hemp plant is known as ganga. It can be used for making clothing or floss, and also you can perform bongloads with it, although that is highly illegal.

It is the same plant that produces cannabis (marijuana) and it can be made into clothing and other items.
Help the planet? Versatile? Sure it can be made into rope and fabric but,I cant believe anyone honestly grows it just to make clothing, birdseed, twine, etc. After all it is the plant that marijuana comes from.
