It will run for 50hrs before using a kilowatt of electricty (50*20W = 1000W). Find your unit price for electricity and divide by 50 to get your answer
About 33 hours for one unit.

1 'unit' of electricity coast about 10p. Or 1 Kw/h.

(1000 watts per hour)

A 20 watt tube uses (including the ballast) about 25 to 30 watts in real terms.
Paul B has the right answer.

If you are in the US, most electric companies charge a "generation fee" (the cost of making the electricity) and a "transmission fee" (the cost of maintaining the infrastructure to get the electricity to your house). In finding your price per kilowatt, you look in the "generation fee" section.

Good luck ...

(by the way ... florescent light is bad for your eyes, even though it is cheaper to produce)
