is there anything that can be done to get rid of these fleas?
we got rid of the cats(well 3 of the 4....the one isn't around that often)
but anyways any idea what we can do before we get eaten alive?
Answers:
plain kitchen salt sprinkled on the carpet will also kill them- -
a flat narrow pan of soapy water with a light shining on it at night will be full of dead fleas in the morning- - bombing just makes them more resistant to the chemicals
good luck

a bath
a bath
Call the Bug pros in your area... Bomb the house again
Try taking a bath at least weekly and add a cup of dill pickle juice to the bathwater. That should send those little buggers on their way.
Aww, that's sad that you got rid of the cats just because they had fleas.
My dog gets really bad fleas every summer. Flea bombing doesn't work because it doesn't get all of the surfaces in your house.
Just keep vaccuuming your house and empty the vaccumm bag, if you have one. Once it starts to get a little colder they will disappear.
vacuum everything
walk around your house in wht sock and throw the socks away
the wht socks attract the fleas
and through the vac bag away
2 above are right about vacuuming often...and throw the bag away OUTSIDE THE HOUSE!. Once you bomb, you have to keep agitating the areas where eggs are to get them to hatch. Treat your animals as well - like frontline or something like it.
When it gets cold, the fleas will be less active outside, but they might still hang around your house. The best way to get rid of thme is to prevent them by treating your animal all year long. Too late now, so I would say to keep your cat out of most areas in the house...shut the doors and if possible, keep the cat in places without carpet (like a large basement - not locked in the bathroom). Kitty won't like it much, but it will not be for long. You will have to bomb again or get a pro to come in and spray.
Those bombs aren't really that good. My aunt kept doing that at her house and it kept getting worse. You are going to have to call the exterminator.
Fleas hatch every 6 to 7 days. You have to do it when the eggs are hatching. Use powder in your furniture, beds, wash every last bit of blanketing, clothing, every place they are in..whatever is washable, do it. They really don't like cold, so if you have any way of keeping things cooled off in the house, go for it.
You need to stay on top of it, because bombing a couple of times won't kill the eggs. You have to get them to stop laying eggs first. It takes more than one shot I can tell you that right now.
You really have to hit the spots they are hiding out in with the powder..yes it says its only for the animals, but why I say this - I did it. Be sure that you do not get the powder on your skin! Sprinkle it in the beds, under matresses, under the bed itself, under couch cushions, behind cushions. Make sure when you do that, that you have something to keep it all covered, so it doesn't get on you.
You can get rid of them. It takes 2 or 3 tries, if you do it in the right sequence. Go for every 5 to 6 days.
As for yourselves, find Band-aid bug bite spray. It is spray calamine lotion.
When fleas bite, they leave a fluid that keeps the wound open, seeping. This particular brand of bite spray stops it all. It is for dry weeping bites, and it works like a charm.
I went through this, and spent weeks of dealing with it before I finally figured out how to kill them off, even after I had gotten rid of the dog and moved! If nothing else works, you may have to suffer it out until the air gets cold enough out, they thrive on heat. If they have nothing to feed on, then they die, thats it. So basically they are feeding on you as well. If all else fails, call a vet and ask them if they recommend any particular thing for the problem.
Best wishes there!
I moved into an apartment that had pet owners before me and the place, I found, was crawling with fleas!... I tried the bombs and the exterminators too but it didn't work... then someone told me about this detergent that's called BORRAX.. it's just a powder detergent and you can buy a few boxes and layer it over your carpet. Leave it there for like 15 mins and then just vaccum it up. It's awsome!!.. It doean't smell and it totally work because it suffocates the fleas.... I was so happy because I'm allergic to the bites but as soon as I did it we were flea free!... Well Good luck!
check searchs for borax uses.
Flea Killer
Sprinkle borax on dog beds, carpets, and other areas where you suspect that fleas are hatching. Borax releases boric acid, which is a poison (note that very high doses would need to be ingested to harm a pet or human).
I had the same problem. For the carpet I suggest using a sort of talk to kill them and vacuum twice a day. The other thing that completely eliminated the fleas was using Advantage (imidacloprid), and you can get it at any veterinary. It kills fleas in 12 hours and your cats do all the work. It's just simple tears of medicine you apply to the cat on the back of the neck, ( so they don't clean it away). And the good thing is that the cats don't suffer any side effects. Good luck and Ps: don't scratch the bites!!
Chau.
you can sprinkle flea powder on the carpet, but don't vacuum for a couple of days.
Wash all bedding, you might have to replace the mattresses if they are invested with flea eggs.
Vacuum the house to get the eggs, using a vacuum cleaner with a disposable bag. Toss the bag (outside in a sealed trash can), and put a new one in immediately after vacuuming, so the eggs don't hatch in the bag and the fleas get out.
Then bomb the house to kill the live fleas and larva.
Anny eggs you missed will hatch in up to 2 weeks. So Repeat this process every 2 weeks, for 3 times total.
And the cat gets a flea bath every 2 weeks.
