How do you get rid of cockroaches if you live in an apartment building?
Answers:
Your last sentence is an answer.
They were here before us, will be here far longer than our species will, and can only be moderately controlled, not eradicated.
Food stuffs, newspaper, trash cans, cardboard boxes, warm, dry, cool wet,,,all attract them.
I use a boric acid powder which comes in a white plastic bottle with a red nozzle for application. I purchased it at an HD store locally.
It should not be used specifically around open foods, nor should it be in contact with food cooking items or stargae items, but washing them pre use will help.
It is very effective and less expensive or intrusive than sprays, but can be messy in its confined area.
All you can do is endure that they exist and maintain CLEAN,,, and control factors.
I live in Central Florida,,, they seem to enjoy it here as much as tourists do, but unfortunately, they don't GO HOME,,,THEY FOUND A HOME HERE,,,smiles.

If your landlord won't treat the entire building, call the health department and report it. It's the landlord's responsibility first, and if he doesn't handle it, he's a slum lord and needs to be reported. I had that problem. Once the health department was called, he finally acted. It was nasty. Good luck.

call an exterminator, dont leave crap lying around, clean up dishes, and arm yourself with a large pot.
If you have disgusting neighbors then there is nothing that you can do. No professional exterminator can block cockroaches from getting into your house. They can only kill the ones that are there already.
the best you can do is keep them out of your apartment. you can use those bombs that you buy and the store. It will kill some and run the rest into other peoples apartments. if you don't have kids or pets lay down boric acid in the entry ways and in between cabinets. You will never really get rid of them just cut down on it
Call the orkin man trust me it works
move out or have the place bombed by the land lord i would leave it up to him
If you live in an apartment building, you'll need to contact the landlord and every apartment will have to be sprayed or bombed.
move out?
MOVE!!
the problem with pest in an apartment may not be from your unit alone, it maybe coming from a downstairs or upstairs unit. the best way to tackle this issue is to go to your managements office and let them know you have a severe pest problem. most apartment complexes spray for pest bi-annually but if there is a serious problem they can have the sprayers come in and spray sooner. if they don't you can contact your states renters association and they can put pressure on that complex to spray sooner than later. hope that helps.
call a professional extermenation company.. take a week's vacation.. get back and clean up ur appartment
Once you have had an exterminator in and sprayed, make sure any holes in the walls (eg where pipes go into) etc are filled with Steel wool and then polyfill over them. Anywhere there is gaps they can come in so fill, plug and lots of luck.
1st put down some boric acid or powder called roach proof. make sure it stays dry and there is no water around for the bugs. 2nd, the electronic thing ultra high frequency made just for bugs , works great. I dont know where you can find them maybe on line. I used to live in a roach infested dump and this got rid of them and its cheap.
First you need to get your landlord involved. It is his responsibility to handle it. However, since you live in the apartment you can take steps to rid yourself of the roaches. Simply buy a can of insecticide and spray your apartment with it. You then need to observe some simple hygiene rules. 1 Keep your apartment clean, wash all your dishes before going to bed e.t.c. I guess if you do this you will be okay.
If you can't get the whole apartment building to do it, they will come back. So your best bet is roach motels and a can of raid. They are really stubborn little things, but the raid usually does it. LoL. Good luck, sorry about your problem. I hate those things.
When I lived in an apt building, the landlord had an exterminator come every month, that wasn't enough.
We had to have everyone (on our floor anyway) put down roach baits, as well as boric acid. That is when we got rid of the roaches, when we all worked together.
They can live on basically anything, so you could try drying your sink after washing dishes, putting the baits/boric acid under the sink. They can live on hair follicles too, so sweep up your hair after you comb it. I know, it's just nasty.
Good luck, I know what you're going through.
Try bay leaves (tucked in drawers, cabinets, under matresses etc) to get them to leave your area. You can purchase them from health food stores.
