Good luck with this one. I have fought them for years. I don't know how to keep them away but if you spray them with a solution of Dawn and water, they will die. Dawn is a great grease breaker and they have a protective coating on them that Dawn breaks down. They will die instantly. I tried a garden hose attachment using it and killed many at once. They eventually vanished.

We have them too, and some find their way in the house. Can't figure that one out! I am interested in hearing from others that have ideas here too, but without using a garden hose in the house!! HA!

follow millan j 's advice and find the tree that they are living in and cut it down is the only way you can get rid of them also you may want to try a food and grain store in your area and ask them for a spray to kill them we had them a few years back then we found the tree that had them removed the tree and sprayed them with dawn and water just use a little dawn to more water that should do it havent seen any of those pest in the last year good luck
Hate to say it, but spraying is probably doing more harm to your actual and surrogate offspring than the box elder bugs. They don't bite and they don't spread disease, so keep the window screens closed and do whatever it is you normally do for the willies...
