how to deal with noisy neighbours while working midnights?

i live in a 3 plex house and i am on the middle floor the neighbour in basement also works shift work and he also cant handle the noise not only does the neighbour upstairs holler all the time but his kids (4) are loud n always fighting and when they leave there dogs bark non stop i tried gravol but its not a permanent fix and makes me too groggy ...help im going insane ...oh and not that it matters but i control heat for the house and basment controls hydro .ive thought of some evil tricks but im not like that and i have not confronted these people we are not on speaking terms ..landlord knows about dogs and im scared to write a letter incase i come across with an attitude. the crackheads prior were quieter if u can believe that i could go on n on but im sure u get the picture ...thanks

Buy yourself good earplugs to wear while you sleep. Then if the neighbors still bother you, I think you have a legitimate claim to take to the landlord. You don't need to write a letter, and have the exact way you say it in writing, unless your telephone calls to the landlord do not produce results. Keep your cool and realize that the landlord is not happy to have these disagreements on his lap, even though they are his responsibility. Every tenant is entitled to "quiet enjoyment" of the premises he rents.

Do NOT play dirty tricks with the heat and other physical comforts; it would only get you in trouble you do not deserve.

tell bot nieghbours to take there dog with them and the kids to stop yelling
you should move or go to the office and tell them your problem...and probably they'll make them move out.
Make a very humble request to them to help u.
Try some earplugs...if they don't help, leave the radio on at the highest setting at nite when they're supposed 2 sleep and you're at work, give 'em a taste of their own medicine. Or u could write them a loveletter unanimously and send it to them with a care basket...maybe they'll get the message...(just get some cheap stuff, candies etc 4 the basket)
call the police to report noise disturbances. even though it is during the day time, there is some amount of noise restrictions, especially with the yelling and the dogs. and after they get slapped with a fine a few times, they'll stop.
i work nights so try to talk and explain your situation if this fails, try a little bit of revenge when you get home, like slam a door or two, put on a film with lots of explosions after a couple of weeks your neighbours will have learnt (don't mess with me)...
