how does quality of living in Spain, compare with that in France for a young family?
Answers:
I live in France and I've visited Spain so I can tell some things:
Schooling:
France : it's free until age of 17 in France. But it's a free-religion school. Private schools are cheaper, and in most of the cases, they teach catholic lessons.
Spain : It's from nursery school through to university and is available for the children of foreign residents.
Cost of living:
France : It's more expensive than Spain. Nevertheless Public services cost the same (more or less). Wine is cheaper in France.
Accomodation : more expensive than Spain
In France you can demand an aid from the gouvernement (for all people) if you decide to rent or buy a flat or a house.
General Well being :
Spain it's sunnier than France, They have bothe beautiful landscapes. Sea it's so beautiful in France as in Spain: both have atlantic and mediterranean coasts.
If you want to ski in France you've the Alpes and the Pyrenées; in Spain just the Pyrenées (Pirineos).
Other answers:
I mostly agree with "Franz" - cost of life in Spain is cheaper. One clarification about CAF - you have to be relatively poor to qualify for financial aide with respect to housing, and you have to have two children to receive financial aide for children (or be poor and have one child).

First of all you can also ski in Sierra Nevada in Granada, it hosted the ski world cup, so I guess it's not bad, plus it's so beautiful.
It depends on what city you will live in. Granada has nothing to do with Sevilla, or Madrid, or Zaragoza, or Barcelona, or... and the same with Paris, Pau, Lyon, Marselle, etc.
France's economy is going to hell, though it is still stronger than Spain's, due in part to a larger population.
It depends so much on where you are going and what are you going to do. If you like to socialize and go out to eat and for drinks, go to Spain. It is still more affordable and the food is sooooo good. I think people in Spain are much friendlier than in France, and education is great.
It's not an easy answer, and I truly think it depends on the way you are. If you enjoy people and social life, go to Spain. If you are more the sophisticated kind of a person, maybe you should go to France.
Both countries are fantastic.
