My lawn is displaying a large fairy ring. In all of my gardening books only one mentions it and how to remedy the condition. It involves removing all of the turf infected, removing a couple more inches of soil and replacing all with new soil and seed/turf. Is there a simpler way? Should I do nothing, what will happen to my lawn? Thank you.
Answers:
I don't do anything. It won't really hurt anything. It eventually just gets a larger circumference every year until it's not recognizeable as a ring.
As far as I understand it, it's like an infection (fungal?) where the infecting agent is a nitrogen-fixer. So....what's in the ring is getting an extra dose of natural fertilizer. You can conceal it somewhat by fertilizing the entire lawn. That's expensive and needless. Digging it up is expensive and needless. I just let it go and enjoy the view. It's not hurting anything.
