Saw a cockroach - what to do?

I saw a cockroach (I'm pretty sure it was one) in my condo in my kitchen. My kitchen is spotless, mostly because I never eat there, and my house in general is not cluttered. What should I do? Call an exterminator? Hope it was just visiting and is not bringing others? I share that wall with a neighbor, so even if I did bring an exterminator, it might just bother my neighbors, then come back to me. Are there cockroach traps? I actually have a hole in the ceiling... would just covering the hole save me from future incursions?

Answers:
first off NEVER SHOP AT WALMART buy some 20 mule team borax and sprinkle it into every corner and crack you can find. dust a little into your cabinets and drawers.the stuff is virtually non toxic to humans but is murder to bugs.a better product to use is "roach proof" but it is hard to find. 20 mule team borax if available at most everywhere that sells washing powders and most feed/farm stores carry roach proof...FYI borax is sodium tetraborate.roach proof is boric acid

roaches are like ants. there is never just one. Best thing you could do is spray.. you don't have to call a exterminator yet.

SELL ALL YOU BELONGINGS NOW, and move far away
If you live in a condo, there is very little you can do about your neighbor's bugs. Just keep your place clean to discourage visits... and spray. Often.
Kill it next time and don't worry about it until you start seeing more. If you don't want to kill it, pick it up on a piece of paper and throw it outside. Once you start seeing more, then go into some more detail with exterminators and such.
go to wal-mart or ur nearest store and buy some raid and spray the roach and it wont bother you neighbors or anybody except them roaches.
raymax kill roaches and ants buy it at wal-mart
call an exterminator, quick! I killed one cockroach that visited from my nasty neighbor's house, but I later had a problem with more visitors. Nip it in the bud, girl!
Definitely call an exterminator. I used to work at a pest control company and the most important thing to do is keep all your food in air-tight containers. They are nearly impossible to get rid of, but it is very necessary to call in a professional with this type of pest.
Definitely call an exterminator! if there's one theres tons more probably hiding somewhere. are you sure its a cockroach? well anyway if you're sure it is definitely call an exterminator, yes!
just kill that one and hope that there are no others there
I used to manage an apartment complex & if I were you I would call an exterminator right away. Roaches are very hard to get rid of on your own.
Could have gotten in from the hole or even from a shopping bag from the store. Best thing to do is keep an eye out for any more, provided you killed the one you saw. If you see any others then call an exterminator despite your neighbors.
the best solution is to talk to your neighbors and organize with each other..if you or your neighbors have roaches you will just push them back and forth if you dont get together and get rid of them. I would probobally fix the hole either way though just to be on the safe side
Feed it and keep it as a pet. Just kidding. What you can do is buy some of that poison that comes in a liquid form in a gun thing. Put some on an onion and that will attract all the cockroaches and kill them.
cockroach is harmless creature it don't bite .. so to rid them get empty bottle of spray mix lot of salt with water and spray them they die in seconds
get a few roach traps and set them out, they dont / cant bite but some can fly... it is fun chasing them around and then just mashing the stuffing out of them with a shoe :)
wait until there are about 30 or 40 of 'em, then stir fry 'em and have some friends over for dinner. yum!!
close all the loop holes, clean uer house, throw carbage away. and try 2 bug spray every 2 week around the house.
yes you could cover the hole try googling cockroaches and then that shhould give you some info. instead of calling an exterminator i would first call a maide. i mean i know your house is clean but that may help you get rid of small crumbs and dirt that you may not see. also i thinhk that there are traps that you can buy. they only come out at night. killl them if you see them. thats important if it gets out of hand call an exterminator. oh and cover the hole with either drywall or caulk because the bugs may be coming from an upstairs apartment or roof whichever one. dont worry about your neighbors and if you are worring talk to them about it and see if they have had problems and what they are doing. GOOD LUCK HAVE A GREAT DAY!
Scream and stand on a chair (or is that mice?) roaches like things like crumbs and small particles of food that can accumulate behind and under units so make sure you don't have any hidden caches of roach food around. In a condo it might not be your problem but one of your neighbors and they are just crawling thought the vents/wall spaces/floors. try to find a safe way of administering a poison (contained in a roach trap) to them or call in an exterminator.
bomb the apartment with pesticide. its simple. do to the grocery store or wal-mart and get a fogger, set it off in the morning, after the designated time period elapses go back and open the windows to air out the condo. after that kill every single one you see, set roach traps and talk to your neighbors. also alert your management so they can call an exterminator if need be. good luck.
well i will tell you you are hit most lickley spay fast roaches can breed from them self one roach you most likley have 40 now if you live in a comdo well if your neibor has them then there you go. now if you spray then they hide at your neighbors then they will be back well call heip because you can kill them but not there eggs each eggs have 40 or more
I have seen some pretty big 'roaches here in the UK. I wonder if anything like spray from your exterminator will do any good. Cockroaches have been said to be one of the only creatures that can withstand a nuclear explosion! You could move to a tall flat!
for everyone u see theres 100 that u don't see
if i were u id call someone right now
uhhhh i hate them uhhhhh ! i have covered alla the holes specially the holes of waste water. if i see a cocroach i call my neighbors to kill it. :)

But a decent pesticide and spray, you really should block up any holes they may be getting access from. if that fails call an exterminator. The cockroaches will never be totally gone no matter what you do they haven't survived for hundreds of millions of years for nothing.
please do not shout when u see a **** but roach to enjoy it.
Can spray it if u like but exterminating is false and putting back in the ceiling hole for further incursions is right!
Call Your Landlord. I Had Them About 3 or 4 Years Ago. Igot Them From A Cardboard Box. My Cat Found Mine. They Like Warm Places Like Oner The Stove. I Had Them All Over My Kitchen Floor And They Where Under My Water Cooler. I Had To Get Someone To Come And Spray My Apartment 3 Times. And All Of The Other Aptments To. But They Where Only In My Apartment.I Itch Just Thinking About It Like I Did When I Had Them.
There's no such thing as one roach. There is a gel put out by Combat that takes them out pretty well.
