How can I keep slugs out of my home?

Quit inviting them in.

I've heard that they don't like salt...so if you know the area(s) that they are getting in you could put some salt in that area

There are many remedies for slugs that you can buy at your local hardware store or Wal-mart, but if you want to be a little less damaging to the environment, beer is a good slug killer. Simply fill a container with beer and place where slugs are commonly found. The slugs are attracted to the beer, but once they get in, they die.
Also check the varieties of flowers or plants around your home. Slugs are attracted to certain types of flowers and plants. Remove these as well and you will be in business.
If you are talking about real slugs (Snails with no shell) that live in moist dark places then you may have a problem.
If you are seeing them in only on part of you home then its not that bad. You need a seal job. If you are seeing slugs in your home you are probably seeing them in your basement or garden apartment. You eihter have cracked cement, loose bricks, or hole of somekind where they are getting in. And its by fixing these problems that will make your Slug problem go away. Oh yea, and if your seeing Slugs the Centepedes and Millipedes are next if you arent seeing them already.
First, find the "slime trail" that slugs leave behind as they travel. This shows you the path they take into the home. Then set out a shallow pan, like a pie tin, filled with beer to about 1/2 from the lip. The slugs are drawn to the beer, crawl in and drown. As a note, don't drink the beer with the slugs in it..
Another method is to find the same trails and pour a line of salt across the trail at the base of the foundation. A more expensive fix is to mount a strip of copper (flat, comes in rolls) against the wall of the house all 'round. The slug crawling over the copper receives an electrical shock and will immediately retreat.
Feel free to try these suggestions with "specimen" slugs. You'll be amazed.

put diatomous earth in there path Its non chemical and earth friendly and it will slice and dice them for you, all that salt can,t be good for anything except kraut
