how to keep a closed house smelling fresh?

When travelling away for two weeks at a time, the house often smells stale when we come back. What can we do to keep it smelling nice? Is there something we can buy or use to leave in the house when we leave?

Answers:
One reason homes have bad odors when left vacant is that the water in drain traps evaporate and sewer gas is allowed to come out of the drains. Before you leave the next time, put one teaspoon of cooking oil in each drain, including any floor drains and laundry drains.
An open container of water and vanilla with a wick in it will give the home a nice smell . Also Potpourri will help absorb odors.

baking soda or a silicant like quick dry or something like that... put it in bowls around the house
