We are thinking about selling our house fsbo. any thoughts?

The realtor we were working with refuses to sell at what we think is a reasonable price. Please do not inundate me with comments about realtors know best, etc. We realize he has reasons, but we also has reason to think he is low-balling the price. We just want advice on fsbo sales.

Selling your house yourself is always a great opportunity....no sales commisions and you ask what you want for it. However my husband and I tried to sell our town house FSBO and didn't have any bites on the property. We don't think it was because we were asking too much for the property(it eventually closed at more than what we had originally asked for) we began to find out that when you sell your house yourself you don't have as much exposure to potential buyers as you would if you listed it with a realtor (they have their own system that allows realtors from all over to see your listing). I think selling your house yourself is an excellent idea if you have enough exposure (advertising, open house, etc) but if your housing market is slowing down it proably is a better idea to list your home with a realtor. If your realtor refuses to list your house at the price you want to list it at go find another realtor if you can get out of your contract with the current realtor you are dealing with. If you find out that other realtors don't agree with you on the price you're asking for it might be that you are asking a little too much for your property. Realtors don't base market value on nothing...they base the market value on comparable properties (similar to yours) that have sold recently. Keep trying you're bound to get a good offer that you can't refuse if the price is right! Hope this helps and good luck! :)

The only problem you will have is getting your housed shown by realtors. I sold my home by owner and it went smooth, due to the fact that I new a title VP and he helped with the closing.

Go for it! I've never had any luck, either, with realtors. Last time I listed a property with a national company it sat there for a year. I took the sign down and six months later called them to have them pick up the sign. They didn't even know they'd had it listed! If you don't sell it then they probably wouldn't have either, unless you want to give it away.
