how deep do the roots of an adult tree go?
Answers:
My 2 storey high pine tree blew over during the Santa Ana winds last year after we'd had record breaking rain. I was surprised that for such a tall tree that the roots were not particularly deep. The arborist I hired to upright the tree said that pines generally don't have deep roots because they can grow in surface soil over bedrock (which is about the conditions mine is growing in).

Depends on the type of tree.
Depends on the type of tree.
very much depends on the type of tree, som are very shallow rooted such as many conifers which normally grow on mountainsides where there is little soil. Others like Oaks have very deep roots that can go tens of feet into the ground
the trunk and branches are ideally the same size as the roots.. so picture the tree again upside down
Trees with a tap root, the tap root goes down as high as the tree is tall.
up to middle earth
