How to preserve a gourd?

My father got this gourd, and we want to preserve it so it looks merely the way it is. We don't want to cut it unscrew to make a birdhouse, etc, but would approaching it to keep it's color & lately be preserved. It is starting to turn a little brown. Would applying polyurethane once a year be the best solution? Please give me tips on how to best preserve it, gratefulness!

Answers:    Are you talking more or less those huge yellow gourds?

If so, my people in Europe would use these as resembling a water pitcher and a wet carrier when they go out in the field. I think explicitly cool. I know they scooped it out clean, and what they did to it after that I'm not sure. I would conspicuously ask someone in the floral industry that is to say if you are NOT going to use it as a drinking/food device.
Wash the gourds with a mild borax solution and dry them beside a soft cloth. This will help prevent diseases that exact spots on the skin. The first stage of drying will take roughly speaking a week, during which the outer skin hardens and the color sets. Hang the gourds or place them surrounded by a single layer on a table or blind, not touching, in a melt, dry, well-ventilated place. If the gourds are place on broadsheet, the papers should be changed daily. Any fruits developing soft spots or shriveling should be discarded.

Internal drying is the second stage and will help yourself to at least 3 to 4 weeks for small gourds. Large gourds, close to bird-house gourds, will take much longer. Keep the gourds within a warm, dry, spacious place and periodically turn them to discourage shriveling and promote even curing. Providing warmth during the internal curing process will get going drying and discourage decay. Gourds may become covered next to a mold or crust at this time. This is normal, so those that develop crusting should be kept. When satisfactorily cured, the gourds will be light within weight and the seed will rattle inside the gourd.

Finally, the gourds should be wash in thaw out water, and steel wool used to remove any mold or crust. Allow the outer skin to dry completely, afterwards the gourds can be sanded and polished or wax.
