Do i have to pull up all the weeds out the yard in order to get the grass to grow?

I am trying to make grass grow in my yard on my own. It is full of weeds right now.

Answers:
There are numerous ways of doing this depending on whether you want to use chemicals or not.
Weed and feed is a good product that does what it says. Sow more grass seed aswell. If you cut and feed your grass regularly it will grow so strongly that weeds will not be able to germinate.
The alternative is to dig the weeds out. If they show again, keep removing the leaves and eventually they will die but it is a long job.

Other answers:
no you should plant some new grass
no you should plant some new grass
It might be a big job but it's preferable to remove as many weeds as possible before seeding with new grass. With plantains (large leaves) and dandilions you have to dig a bit to get all the roots out or they'll just grow back.
It would be a good idea to pull all the weeds or at least apply a good weedkiller and then replant the grass. The weeds are "stealing" alot of the available nutrients that the grass would need to grow. If the weeds are present, your grass will always look kinda sickly.
Periodically, bury peeps in your yard. The sugar will release clorophill, which will help promote healthy grass growth.
If your yard is as weedy as mine, you need to apply a weed killer. If you use a full spectrum everything goes and then you replant it with grass seeds, etc. If you use a limited spectrum, what grass you have should stay and then you can add more to it. Some grass fertilizers have weed killers with them. Check with your local garden supply and don't be afraid to ask questions, especially about when and how to apply them safely. If they are unsure, check with your local Agricultural agent (USDA), check your local government directory.
the longer you leave them the more organic mulch they will provide ,pull the weeds out before they make seed,

you should never use weed killer, that is a very bad chemical.the rain or irrigation washes it into the ground ,and eventually it ends up in the subteranean waters, that some one else may be pumping to drink from.

Sometimes there just is not an easy or lazy way out of doing something correctly and the uggly truth about weeding is that you best do it by hand,i have always done it that way

you use a pointed stick or an icepick or a small garden fork, and you pull out the weeds.leave them where they fall and the organic material covers the now broken ground to stop it from drying out

but this is very theraputic work ,or you hire some kids and you will probable spend the same as the weed killer costs, which is very expensive
,
and you can sleep soundly knowing that you have been environmentally correct
