I hold vegetable plants growing beneath CFL (compact flourescent Lights) and everything I read say 1-3 inches?

everything says to put them 1-2 inches away from the plants leaves but I appear to be burning them. Any suggestions from anyone who have grown edible fruits/veggies beside flourescent?

Answers:    You keep the nearly 3 inches from a normal florescent bulb. Compact bulbs sort more heat so you enjoy to move it away to maybe 5 inches. That should be close ample for maximum photosynthesis but far enough to not char the leaves. If, by chance, they do still char back it stale a little more.
