helpfull ways to get onto the property ladder?

I am looking to buy a cheap property (in North East England) and need some ideas of where to start looking for bargain property's to do up and sell on. Can anyone help?

Answers:
Property auctions. These are held all over the UK, most of the houses are morgage reclaims or problem buildings. I've heard of terrace row houses going for under ten thousand pounds, once renovated they sell for 70,000. Renovate the right houses, make them into dream homes. Concentrate on Kitchen, living room and storage. Beautiful gardens help too.

Other answers:
Cruise the neighbourhoods you like, take numbers of the agents on the boards, look online in agents sites and visit agents offices.

If you see a house without a sign, knock on neighbours doors and find the owner by word of mouth, it's possible they haven't put it on the market because they inherited it and lost heart.

Advertise in local papers and shops, don't say you want to sell on, to anyone, just that you want a bargain property to renovate. People don't always take kindly to you making a killing when they can't, or haven't been able to afford to do a place up themselves.

Go to local businesses like builders, electricians, anyone who traverses the neighbourhood to work will know of houses that look derelict or ones that have been standing empty for a while.

Spread the word about in pubs and places people gather, ask, ask, ask, because the locals always know of properties belonging to older residents that may have been empty for while and the owner has neglected.or lost heart in them.

If you have the incentive and the cash, the worst of places can become a palace.

Very experienced past buyer and seller on:-)
