"rat like creature in south texas/san antonio"?

I live in San Antonio, TX and was sitting in my backyard late one night and noticed a stirring in the yard. I had the flashlight, and shined it over there, and it looked like a GIGANTIC RAT!! long tail, greyish in color, long nose, CREEPY!

It was over a foot and a half long and chubby, with about a 12 inch tail... (get your mind out of the gutter!) lol

I walked swiftly in the house and checked the door behind me and told myself it was NOT A GIGANTIC SCARY NEW YORK SEWER RAT!

I know the cockroaches "water bugs" (I guess naming them that makes it more tolerable) are supposed to be big in TX but had no idea that there were rats this big.

Someone please help! someone tell me honestly it was something else that is popular and running around in the backyards of northeast San Antonio! and what is his/her identification/species/name???...
