At the place where branches come out from the main stem, you will either see a white pistil (single hair looking thing), or a ball sack... If it has a pistil then you're getting bud, if not then pull the plant up...

the male grows spikey branches straight up wards and has little yellow flowers,(like tiny fluffy balls),as soon as you see them pull them out,
and destroy them they are not good to smoke anyway.
