HELP! Does anyone have any idea what kind of insect this is?

For the past few days, every time I go to brush my teeth at night a tiny moth flies out the drain. I kill it with some toilet paper and flush it. But the next night the SAME EXACT THING happens! The moth is pretty small with little round wings and it's grey in color. What is going on here? Where are these moths coming from?

Answers:
I haven't a clue what type it is, but it obviously likes being down in the drain. Every summer I get these strange little black flies living in one of my bathroom drains. Just a few of them, but they love it down there.

I suggest you clean out your drain, thoroughly. Pull up the sink stopper, the plunger thingy that extends down into the drain. It may or may not come out easily, but pull it out you must. Clean it totally, then clean the hole. There will most likely be all sorts of grossities down there. Use a long chopstick, or some very long needle nosed pliers and pull out all hair and gunk. Then take a skinny, stiff scrub brush and scrub it clean.

Those so-called drain cleaners are not good at cleaning this part of the sink so don't bother with those. Physically remove stuff. Use a flashlight to help you see.

Now, take some vinegar and baking soda and put some of each down the drain. Use the baking soda first, add a few tablespoons. Then pour a cup of vinegar in. Let it fizz for a while, then run hot water to wash it all away.

The moth is most likely just hiding in the drain, but maybe the environment there is good for mating too, since you seem to have a number of moths. By cleaning the drain you'll change the environment, so maybe they'll go elsewhere.

Hope this helps.

Pour some bleach down the drain.
JUST REMOVE AND CLEAN YOURE DRAIN,ANDREGULERLY RUNWARMSOAPY WATER THROUGH THERE...THAT'LL DO IT..
WOW! This is truly Hilarious! LOL!
*sigh*

how about spraying some Raid right down your drain??? or Yeah Bleach!! or boiling water

I thikn maybe there's a nest or something and they keep hatching and flying off as soon as water runs down the drain. it's kind of a gross place to be for a moth.
That is SO creepy! I have no solution for you..just keep killing them..seriously though, that's gross..and if it happened to me, I'd be calling maintenance ASAP
If it's the size of a gnat, sounds like you got sewer flies. And if you look real close there will be little crawly worms (baby sewer flies, maggots) there too. Kill 'em with something like Clorox ( a tablespoon down the drain and down the overflow hole then put down the stopper and tape the overflow hole) or you can put a teaspoon salt down the drain and add 1/2 cup vinegar, makes a potent acid. Let stand overnight. ( Do NOT mix Clorox and vinegar together.) If that doesn't work, then use Drano. Send me an e-mail if you want something more leathal.
it's either the indian meal moth or the clothes moth... it sounds more like the indian meal moth... call the exterminator if you cannot clean the area properly to prevent this problem...
