I read that raccoons don't have saliva; how do they transmit rabies?

Found this at backyard.net or something similar

One handicap raccoons have is that they lack salivary glands to wet their food as they eat. This is why they often dunk their food in water before eating it. In the old days it was thought that they were smart enough to know to wash their food, but now that behavior also is regarded as instinctual.

Answers:
I believe rabies is transmitted through the blood in a bite. I don't think saliva is a prerequisite for carrying it. I can't speak on your lack of saliva theory of raccoons, as I have no idea if that is true or not.
