If this is a gift for a friend, you might want to avoid roses (looks romantic). Gerber daisies are bright and fun, and you can get them in any number of colors. You might also try irises.
Be careful with roses if she is just a friend. I would suggest carnations - and they come in any color you want including purple. Lillies are nice too but a little pricy and purple is hard to find.

I gather that you are getting her a bouquet of flowers... What about purple with a filler of Liaianthus. The uniqueness of this is that these flowers can be dried especially Lisianthus and the she has a memory of this special time and the gift giver long after the event. You can let the florist know to use the purple Lisanthus for filler.
