Answers:    I have both, I use the gas fire consequently switch over to the halogen heater on one fishing rod just to save the room warm nice and moderate.
Gas fire for the room, halogen is more a poeple stove, you have to be contained by front of it unless it's a small room, they are only nearly 1.5kw as opposed to 3.5 kw for fires (average).
