Lightening struck a pole near our house...now forcast says more thunderstorms, and worse. What precautions?
Answers:
WiserAngel has good advice. Also, get a lightning rod for the roof of your home if you don't already have one. And don't be afraid, the chances of your home getting struck by lightning are still quite small and if you stay away from corded electrical devices, toilets, and running water, you should be fine.

It sounds like you're doing the right things- just don't climb that pole! ;)
Unplug all your electronic devices. Do not talk on corded phones. Do not take a shower or run water. Do no use any of your kitchen appliances.
Wait for the storm to pass!
These girls in my town had a bad experience about a month ago. The lightning hit a palm tree nearby, it traveled down the electrical path, hit a light that was plugged in and caught on fire. They were able to put out the fire though. Those things are very rare though.
unplug all appliances, computer etc...stay away from water, sink , tubs etc. And stay off the phone.
OMG you're going to die. Let's all overreact.
Unplug really expensive equipment, like computers and televisions...check the weather reports every so often and make sure you have a flash light and a telephone-preferrably, a cell phone, if you have one. Most of the time, nothing bad happens, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.
unplug stuff, and stay off the phone. does your phone line have surge protection? your computer could be vulnerable through that, too.
MAKE SURE YOU TURN EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL ON IN THE HOUSE PUT ON YOUR SUIT OF ARMOUR AND HANG OUT THE WINDOW HOLDING A 10 METRE METAL POLE.............................
Make sure all your major items that are plugged in are turned off. You don't want a power surge which will cause a lot of items to break. Just stay indoors, away from the windows. Listen to a battery powered radio for tornado watches and warnings.
if you are going to have bad ones unplug everything because your surge protector will not save your PC i know i had one go because of lighting
Power surge all electric equipment, do not use the phones during the storm.
Someone else can you a better answer I am sure, but you need to make sure your electric meter is properly grounded. A lightning strike can cause a fire, injuries. Your insurance may pay for your DVD player. One of the worse things that can happen is a house fire. You should contact your electric company and have them come out and make sure you are installed correctly. I am sure it would be no cost to you.
is called life. you take a chance everyday it will be your last and someday it will. only thing youre guaranteed in life is death. no one can take that away.best advice is to NOT worry about what you cannot control! be as happy as you can because you may not get another chance.by the way, get a new surge protector! they are only good once
Never fear, the engineers of your house, neighbourhood, city and country have ensured that besides the odd appliance burning out due to surges within its components there is adequate grounding to earth of your whole house. Your earth is actually all the water pipes in your house and guess where they all end up?...in the ground.
Just make sure you have candles, unplug the appliances in the wall sockets, stay off the land line phone, stay indoors, cook something now if there is enough time, otherwise cans will suffice, if the electricity trips and cannot be reset then you will have to huddle around the TV with the candle and reinact your favourite show, if the electricity is off for a while then use a cooler box with all the ice out the freezer to save all the frozen goods you have in the freezer... and get off the computer if they said there will be more lightning!..LOL
Well for one. Do not believe that lighting does not strike twice in the same place cause it can and has. It's not necessarily metal items that are at risk it's just tall objects. So stay downstairs and away from windows in case the tree should come crashing in.
Best of luck.
